BOWLING GREEN — Full-time undergraduates at Bowling Green State University's main campus here will see their tuition increase by $159 per semester, starting in January.
For full-time students at BGSU Firelands in Huron, who pay lower tuition, the increase will amount to $78 a semester.
BGSU's board of trustees adopted the 3.5 percent tuition hike at its meeting yesterday. The action means tuition at the main campus will be $4,689, starting with the second semester of the current academic year.
The tuition increase is projected to generate almost $2.3 million during the current fiscal year. The money will be used to offset deferred funding from the state that has reduced revenue by $3.8 million.
BGSU President Carol Cartwright sent a letter to students and parents last month, noting that the university has made $13 million in budget cuts and continues to look for ways to reduce expenses such as reorganizing or merging programs.
