Croghan Colonial Bank near Fremont is robbed

10/8/2009

FREMONT — A man held up Croghan Colonial Bank on Tiffin Road yesterday — the second bank in Sandusky County robbed in as many days.

Sandusky County sheriff's deputies said about 11:40 a.m., a man walked into the bank, which is just south of Fremont in Ballville Township. He handed the teller a note demanding money and indicated he had a weapon. He fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

Shortly after the holdup was reported, all Fremont City Schools were placed on lockdown for about an hour as a precaution. Investigators said the robbery does not appear to be related to one Tuesday at Old Fort Bank on State Street in Fremont. The robber in the Old Fort holdup was described as a black male, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and 110 to 120 pounds. Yesterday's suspect was described as white and about 5 feet, 7 inches tall.
