MONROE - Authorities have confirmed that the remains found by an employee at Sterling State Park are the body of a rural Newport., Mich. man who went missing in August, authorities said.

Robert McMullin, 48, died of a self-inflicted wound, according to the autopsy conducted Thursday by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.

The employee was spraying herbicides in an overgrown field in Frenchtown Township about 11 a.m. Wednesday when he found the body. Also found was a long gun that was within arm's reach of the body, Monroe County sheriff's Detective Joe Hammond said.

Mr. McMullin walked away from home Aug. 4. He was depressed over a medical diagnosis, Detective Hammond said.
