Hancock commissioners take 5 percent pay cut

10/9/2009

FINDLAY — The Hancock County Commissioners yesterday said they had given themselves a 5 percent pay cut that took effect in the biweekly paycheck they received last week.

The pay cut, which will amount to about $2,775 a year per commissioner, will be in effect “until further notice, until we get back on our feet financially,” Commissioner Phil Riegle said.

Hancock County commissioners are paid $55,524 a year — a salary set by state law based on county population.

Commissioners are asking county voters Nov. 3 to approve a 0.5 percent sales tax enacted by commissioners last year. Revenues from the tax are designated for flood mitigation and county operations.
