Judge gains recognition for studies in science

Lucas County Domestic Relations Court Judge Norman Zemmelman was one of 14 judges statewide recently named ASTAR Fellows, a title given to those who complete coursework and a project on science and technology issues.

The national Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource, or ASTAR, program is a nonprofit educational institution that prepares judges “to preside over cases involving complex scientific issues and equips them to serve as gatekeepers of the admissibility of cutting-edge science and technology issues that are increasingly coming before Ohio's courts,” according to the Ohio Supreme Court. The group was formed in 2005 to help judges deal with the challenges of developments in science and technology.
