Mom who endangered baby gets early release

A 22-year-old woman sentenced in April to 17 months in prison on a child-endangering charge was granted an early release yesterday by Judge Denise Ann Dartt of Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Joy Kinsman, formerly of Eastway Street in Toledo, was serving a sentence that stemmed from her admission that she failed to get her 11-month-old girl proper medical attention for several injuries inflicted over a period of time. Kinsman's former live-in boyfriend, Michael Turski, Jr., was sentenced in April to four years in prison for his role in the baby's injuries. He earlier pleaded guilty to a felony charge of child endangering.

During their separate pleas March 11, Kinsman and Turski, who once lived together, admitted they neglected to get medical attention for the child despite being told by paramedics to take her to a hospital. At the hospital, the child was found to have suffered numerous broken bones and a retina hemorrhage, prosecutors have said. The baby also was found to be malnourished.
