Man gets work release for assault of detectives

10/27/2009

A Michigan man convicted of misdemeanor assault on two undercover police detectives was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court yesterday to 90 days on work release.

David Abalos, 24, of Temperance was sentenced to six months in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, of which three months were suspended. He was ordered to serve the remaining three months in work release by Judge Denise Ann Dartt.

Mr. Abalos initially was charged with aggravated robbery and two felony counts of assault. After a week-long trial, a jury found him not guilty on two charges and guilty only of misdemeanor assault.

Two other defendants were found not guilty of all charges during the trial. Others involved in the Jan. 25 incident outside Scarlett's strip club had entered pleas to charges of obstructing official business.
