New trial date set for O'Neill

10/28/2009

BOWLING GREEN - A Rossford man awaiting trial on charges stemming from a fatal car-bicycle crash in 2006 has a new attorney and a new trial date.

David O'Neill, 65, is to go on trial April 19 in Wood County Common Pleas Court for drunken driving, aggravated vehicular homicide, and aggravated vehicular assault stemming from a Jan. 15, 2006, crash that killed Dr. Stephen Snedden, 47, of Perrysburg and injured former Perrysburg resident George Haig.

The two men and a third bicyclist were riding along State Rt. 65 just north of Five Point Road when Dr. Snedden and Mr. Haig were struck.

O'Neill, who is serving four years in prison for failure to stop after the accident, had pleaded no contest to all four charges, but in 2008 an appeals court vacated his conviction on three charges after determining the trial court should have suppressed the results of a blood-alcohol test because prosecutors did not prove it was administered properly.

O'Neill recently retained Lorain attorney Jack W. Bradley to represent him. Judge Alan Mayberry yesterday granted Mr. Bradley's motion to move the trial date.
