Monroe County halts talks with pick for executive

11/5/2009

MONROE — Monroe County officials have broken off contract discussions with Robert Brackenbury, who was chosen in September as the county's administrator and chief financial officer.

The Board of Commissioners voted 6-3 Tuesday to end talks with Mr. Brackenbury, a Michigan assistant attorney general.

The action was taken after Commissioner LaMar Frederick reported to the board that Mr. Brackenbury sought severance, health benefits, and salary that were outside county policies for new employees.

Mr. Brackenbury of Wash-tenaw County's Pittsfield Township was asking for a $117,800 annual salary and wanted to be exempt from the 30-day waiting period for health benefits.
