Sandusky County OKs spending cuts for '10

12/23/2009

FREMONT — Sandusky County commissioners yesterday approved appropriations of nearly $15.2 million for the new year — about $1.8 million less than in 2008.

Sales tax revenue and income from investments in Sandusky County have declined as in other counties.

As a result, commissioners froze employees' wages and asked all departments funded by the county's general fund to cut 3 percent from their budgets compared to what they received in their final appropriations this year.

Sheriff Kyle Overmyer plans to lay off a dispatcher next year to trim his budget. County Recorder Colleen Carmack said she will require her three full-time employees to take 13 unpaid furlough days next year.
