1/1/2010

A man was killed yesterday after being struck by two cars as he crossed Cherry Street near Hillwood Drive in central Toledo, authorities said.

Jose Rodriquez, 70, of Toledo, was pronounced dead at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center at

6:45 p.m., Lucas County coroner's investigator Steve Kahle said.

The victim was crossing Cherry from the east side of the roadway about

6 p.m. when a northbound car driven by a pizzeria driver delivering an order swerved in an attempt to avoid the man.

The victim was likely knocked to the ground after being struck by the side mirror of the car, and then he was struck by another northbound car that fled the scene, Mr. Kahle said.
