Competency exam set for Toledo mom in child death

1/6/2010

Rashonda Robinson, the 19-year-old mother of a toddler who died Dec. 14 of apparent suffocation, will be evaluated to determine whether she is competent to stand trial.

Ms. Robinson, of 15 East Streicher St., is charged with endangering children and involuntary manslaughter. She faces up to 18 years in prison if she is convicted. She remains in custody at the Lucas County jail in lieu of $120,000 bond.

At the request of Ms. Robinson's attorney, Judge Frederick McDonald ordered that she be evaluated at the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center for competency to stand trial. He scheduled a hearing for Feb. 2.
