Toledo traffic camera receipts under budget

1/30/2010

The city of Toledo collected $874,308 from red light and speed enforcement cameras in 2009, police Chief Mike Navarre said.

The figure is well below the $2.5 million that the Finkbeiner administration had budgeted.

Chief Navarre said only 44 percent of those who are ticketed pay the fines, and the city is considering immobilizing or towing the vehicles belonging to people who don't pay.

Part of Mayor Mike Bell's plan to balance a $43.8 million deficit includes collecting $1.18 million from the $2.2 million of such outstanding fines.
