JUNCTION, Ohio — A teenage boy was injured when he lost control of his car and struck a tree before landing on the ice-covered Auglaize River in Paulding County's Auglaize Township, authorities said.

Jacob Sproul, 17, of Paulding County was listed in critical condition at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was southbound on County Road 179 north of County Road 166 when he lost control and went off the road about 6:50 p.m. Monday.

He struck several small trees and went airborne before crashing into a large tree on the riverbank. The car then fell about 15 feet onto the river, the Ohio Highway Patrol's Van Wert post said.
