Toledo police Saturday night investigated the shooting of a man who may have been breaking into an occupied home.

The man later died, police told The Blade's media partner, WTOL-TV, Channel 11.

Police were called about 8:30 p.m. to a burglary in progress at 811 Galena St. Shortly after, police and rescue crews were called to a report of a person shot.

Carolyn Dixon, who lives nearby on Galena, said she heard five or six shots.

Police, who were first to arrive, found a man lying at Galena and Michigan Street, cut off his shirt, and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Ms. Dixon said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Officers went to at least two addresses on North Ontario Street as they looked for another person who may have been shot.

No one was found, but police learned around 10 p.m. that a second shooting victim had gone to St. Vincent.

Neighbors on Galena said there have been many recent home break-ins and said vehicle windows have been shot out.
