Suspect in North Toledo break-in is arraigned

Bond was set at $75,000 for one of three suspects in the burglary of a prison guard's North Toledo home in which one of them was killed by the homeowner.

Michael Brown, Jr., 19, of 2105 North Michigan St. appeared yesterday in Toledo Municipal Court on a burglary charge in the Feb. 20 incident.

He was ordered held in lieu of the bond in the Lucas County jail pending a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Mr. Brown, who was shot in the back in the burglary, was admitted to Toledo Hospital hours after the alleged crime. He left without being discharged from the hospital and was arrested at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at 2510 Consaul St.

Christopher Childress, 21, of North Michigan Street was shot and killed during the burglary by the homeowner, Sedric Joplin, officials said.
