3/1/2010Every little bit helps these days when it comes to raising money for community causes. A few dollars here and a few dollars there, when put all together, lead to significant amounts. The same goes for volunteering. When everyone pitches in, a task that seems monumental becomes do-able.

The only aspect of Thomas W. Noe's life that hasn't changed is this: He still says he's innocent, and if given a fair shake, he can prove it. The former Toledo-area political power broker at the center of a scandal that brought down the Republican statewide ticket in 2006 says he is prepared to grow old in prison, but not before exhausting every option to convince a court that rather than stealing $13 million from the state, he made money for it.
FORD Motor Co. will invest $1.6 billion and General Motors Co. $1.4 billion to retool their U.S. factories to build fuel-efficient vehicles to compete with Toyota Motor Corp. models. Being able to hire employees paid on par with Toyota's, however, will have to wait. After cutting 47 percent of its North American work force since 2006, Ford isn't ready to resume adding employees even as it upgrades factories and grabs a larger share of U.S. sales, said Chief Financial Officer Lewis Booth. One analyst estimated Ford may not hire for two years.
Several times during John Gray's career as a sergeant with the Lucas County Sheriff's Office, he was accused of displaying dishonest and aggressive behavior when dealing with inmates at the jail - incidents that federal prosecutors recently said they intend to introduce as evidence in his pending criminal case.
Toledo police are seeking information about a man caught on video this month assaulting another man at a West Toledo bar. About 1:45 a.m. Feb. 19, Richard Tschappat, 26, was hit in the back of the head with a beer glass and knocked unconscious at Andrea's Sports Pub, 3338 West Alexis Rd. He was then punched and kicked.
More than 200 people organized by the Toledo Area Jobs with Justice Coalition rallied Friday outside Sunoco Inc.'s East Toledo refinery to protest the refinery's decision to hire 50 out-of-state workers for its annual maintenance project that begins March 12.
Getting a visit from Jamie Farr is not such a big deal for Greg Morris. At 76, the retired car salesman has been friends with Jamie - Jameel as he calls him - for 70 years. The two went to school together at Lagrange Elementary and later at Woodward High School. They grew up in the same north-end neighborhood and shared the kind of experiences you don't forget even when one of you moves to Los Angeles and finds fame and fortune.
