A teen accused of beating a cab driver in Sylvania Township pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

Terrance Brown, 17, of 432 Arklow Drive initially was charged in juvenile court on a count of attempted murder, but a Lucas County grand jury declined to indict him on the charge last month.

He is charged with using a false name and address to order a cab Jan. 15. Once the driver, Michael Orig, 63, arrived at the back of an apartment complex at 5204 Regency Drive, near Reynolds Road, he was assaulted and robbed of $9.

After a Feb. 9 hearing in Juvenile Court, the teen was certified to be tried as an adult. Judge Charles Doneghy set an April 12 trial date. Young Brown remains in the county jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
