MONROE — A 21-year-old Monroe man has been sentenced in Monroe County Circuit Court for killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident.

Ryan Anteau was sentenced Thursday to 4 to 15 years in prison by Judge Joseph Costello, Jr. He pleaded guilty last month to driving while under the influence of drugs.

Randall Fretwell, 60, was walking on a sidewalk on West Elm Avenue on July 7 when he was struck by Anteau's sport utility vehicle after it had jumped a curb and hit a utility pole. Mr. Fretwell died later at a Toledo hospital.

Sheriff's deputies stopped the defendant's vehicle on Frenchtown Center Drive near North Dixie Highway, more than a mile from the accident.
