Toledo police have arrested a South Toledo mother and her two grown sons in the kidnapping and beating of the 16-year-old boyfriend of the mother's 18-year-old daughter.

"They were upset that he was dating their daughter and their sister," Detective Danny Navarre said.

About 10:30 p.m. Friday, Donna Sims, 40, of 538 Nebraska Ave. and her sons Alonzo Webb, 23, and Jamario Hornes, 18, stopped by Unit 1172 of 522 Eastern Ave., the residence of Ms. Sims' daughter Schardez Hornes.

The mother and sons, who arrived with a 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, found the daughter in the apartment with the boyfriend, Detective Navarre said.

Mr. Webb held the gun to the boyfriend and wouldn't let him leave, police said. While he did this, Mr. Hornes kicked and punched the teen, the detective said.

According to police, the kidnapping and assault continued for about 20 minutes while Ms. Sims watched.

The mother and sons then left the apartment and got back into the blue Pontiac Grand Prix in which they arrived.

"Mom drove them over and drove them away," Detective Navarre said.

The boyfriend called police once his girlfriend's family had left.

The teenager was injured in the attack but declined medical treatment, police said.

Officers spotted the car late Friday night and pulled it over in the 600 block of Tecumseh Street.

The officers arrested all three occupants and found the gun in the vehicle's glove compartment, police said.

Police charged Ms. Sims, Mr. Webb, and Mr. Hornes with kidnapping.

Mr. Webb and Mr. Hornes also were charged with carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property. Detective Navarre said the handgun had been stolen in a 2007 Point Place burglary.

Both sons were booked into the county jail and are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow morning.

Ms. Sims suffered a medical episode while in custody and was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Detective Navarre said he did not know why the mother and sons didn't like the boyfriend.
