2-vehicle accident causes injuries on Rt. 2

3/15/2010

OAK HARBOR, Ohio — Six people were injured yesterday in a collision on State Rt. 2 at Lemon Road in Ottawa County's Carroll Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Troopers from the Sandusky post said a 2002 Chevrolet Venture drifted into the opposite lane and collided with a 1999 Toyota Solara driven by Siegfried Rausch, 46, of Twinsburg, Ohio. The accident was reported at 6:40 p.m. and led to the highway's temporary closing.

Troopers identified the van's driver as Liza Neri, 30, of Toledo, but a spokesman at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center listed her as Liza Cool.

After striking Mr. Rausch's car, the westbound van went off the highway and into a ditch.

Troopers said five passengers in the van, all from Toledo, were taken to St. Vincent. The hospital said it did not have patients with the names Kevin Varnes, 33, and Olivia Varnes, a child, both of Toledo. A child in the van that troopers identified as Madison Cool was listed by the hospital as Madison Neri. A second injured child was identified as Kyle Neri by investigators, while the hospital listed the name as Kale Neri.

Mr. Rausch was taken to Mercy St. Charles Hospital.

No conditions or ages of the injured children were available at press time.

The crash remained under investigation and a highway patrol dispatcher said troopers were to meet with the victims to straighten out the identities.
