Hearing set on proposal for bakery recycling site

3/15/2010

NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio — A March 25 public information session and hearing has been scheduled on a request Bakery Feeds has submitted to the state of Ohio to build a new scrap bakery recycling facility at 12850 Quarry Rd., North Baltimore.

The applicant needs a discharge permit to release air pollutants from the facility, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said. The meetings are to begin at 5:30 p.m. at North Baltimore Public Library, 230 North Main St. Public comments will be accepted by the agency through March 29.

Headquartered in Cold Spring, Ky., Bakery Feeds dries, blends, and processes bakery waste material into a product that is used as an ingredient in animal feed. The proposed facility would dry the food waste with heat generated from a biomass burner, using material such as peanut shells and sawdust as fuel.

The primary emissions from the facility would be volatile organic compounds and particulate matter.
