A Toledo man who stole a Salvation Army kettle at The Andersons in Maumee, telling the bell-ringer that he hated Christmas, pleaded no contest Tuesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to robbery.

Shawn Krieger, 44, of 801 Geneva Ave. pushed the bell-ringer, put the kettle and the tripod into the back of a pickup, and drove off on Nov. 28. He was arrested soon afterward in Wood County on unrelated charges.

He pleaded no contest yesterday to robbery. He faces up to five years in prison when sentenced by Judge Frederick McDonald on March 30.

Krieger has been in the Wood County jail since he was indicted Dec. 3 in Wood County Common Pleas Court on a charge of burglary for the Nov. 18 break-in of a home near Wayne. He is to appear in court for that case April 6.
