Bond set for alleged backseat robber

The suspect who allegedly hid in the backseats of unlocked cars was held on $1.1 million bond Monday on charges relating to the robberies of a Subway restaurant and five women - including one incident that escalated to sexual assault - during an alleged nine-day crime spree earlier this month.

De'Lexis Andre Maloy, 20, of Toledo is charged with five counts of aggravated robbery, robbery, four counts of kidnapping, and rape. He was held in the Lucas County jail after Judge Robert Christiansen ordered $100,000 bond for each charge.

Court records show that Mr. Maloy has an adult and juvenile history of violent crimes and burglaries, but he disputed a report on his criminal record.

"It says here you spent a year in prison on aggravated robbery," Judge Christiansen said.

Mr. Maloy told the judge that the statement was wrong and that he did not go to prison.

Mr. Maloy is charged in the following cases: a sexual assault at Collingwood Boulevard and Palmwood Avenue late March 9, a backseat robbery at 330 West Central Ave. early March 9, a robbery outside apartments in the 2400 block of Collingwood Boulevard about 1:15 a.m. March 8, a robbery and assault at the Crown Inn Motel on West Alexis Road March 4, another backseat robbery in the 700 block of South Avenue about 9:20 p.m. March 3, and the holdup of a Subway restaurant in the 1500 block of Broadway about 9:45 p.m. March 2.

He requested a continuance yesterday to hire a lawyer and is scheduled to return to court at 9 a.m. today.
