Perry Township in Wood County deemed ‘unauditable'

3/24/2010

WEST MILLGROVE, Ohio — Wood County's Perry Township was declared “unauditable” by the Ohio Auditor's Office because of record-keeping problems in 2008 and 2009.

State Auditor Mary Taylor said in a letter sent to township officials March 16 that her office couldn't obtain accurate monthly cash reconciliations from the township during its regular audit.

No funds were identified as missing, but failure to keep proper records “increases the potential of misspending or theft of public funds,” Ms. Taylor said in a news release.

Jenny Holman, fiscal officer for Perry Township, said she was adjusting some accounting entries identified as incorrect and expected the matter to be taken care of shortly. Perry Township, near Fostoria, has a total annual budget of about $450,000, Ms. Holman said.
