Lawyer guilty of theft is denied early release

A visiting judge in Lucas County Common Pleas Court has denied a motion for early release submitted in January by former attorney Karyn McConnell Hancock, who had spent about one year of her four-year sentence behind bars.

Convicted in November, 2008, of aggravated theft, McConnell Hancock admitted to stealing more than $624,000 from 22 clients over six years. She was sentenced Jan. 15, 2009.

On Jan. 21, she requested early release, saying she had no previous adult felony convictions nor had she served time in prison. The prosecutor's office said early release “would demean the seriousness of the offense and its impact on the numerous victims who suffered from her conduct.”

Judge David Faulkner, a retired judge from Hardin County, denied the request last week.
