State probing fire at plant in Wauseon

3/30/2010

WAUSEON —State investigators have been called to Northwestern Ohio Foam Packaging, where eight fire departments battled a smoky blaze early yesterday. No one was injured.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office said the blaze started shortly after midnight at the plant at 123 South Shoop Ave.

The blaze was brought under control shortly after 5 a.m. and damage was extensive, authorities said. The State Fire Marshal's Office said the cause was not immediately known.

Authorities evacuated neighborhoods around the plant because of the thick, toxic smoke.
