Teen to be tried as adult in central Toledo slaying

A Toledo teen charged with the slaying of a central-city man will stand trial as an adult, said Lori Olender, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor.

Rashaad Sultan, 17, of 3616 Nearing Ave. was arraigned Jan. 15 on one count each of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery for the death of Brian Robinson, 46. Mr. Robinson's body was found Jan. 14 in a pool of blood inside his apartment at 494 Martin Lane in the McClinton Nunn Homes public housing complex. The victim was badly beaten, but an autopsy showed the cause of death was strangulation, according to Dr. Diane Barnett, a deputy Lucas County coroner.

Toledo Police Capt. Ray Carroll said after the suspect's arrest that the Sultan youth knew Mr. Robinson and took a cell phone and other items from the victim's apartment. Neighbors said Mr. Robinson moved into the housing complex last summer and lived alone.
