A 19-year-old man who knocked down a disabled veteran to rob him was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to four years of community control.

Edward Kinney of 1439 Pinewood Ave. had pleaded no contest to one count of robbery. As part of his sentence, Judge Frederick McDonald Tuesday ordered Kinney to serve six months in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, followed by six months at the Correctional Treatment Facility, followed by three months at the county work-release program.

Additionally, Kinney was ordered to obtain his GED and take anger management courses.

Assistant Prosecutor Frank Spryszak said Kinney approached the 54-year-old victim Jan. 20 as he was walking on Ontario Street toward Lagrange Street. Kinney punched the man, knocking him down, and went through his pockets, Mr. Spryszak said.

The victim, who is a Vietnam War veteran who lost part of an arm in a later accident, told the man that he did not have money but that he could give him food that he was carrying. Kinney left the man, telling him he’d be back and would expect money.
