Bellevue budget veto overturned by council

4/14/2010

BELLEVUE, Ohio — Bellevue City Council has voted 6-1 to adopt a 2010 budget Mayor David Kile had vetoed.

The mayor said he opposed the spending plan approved Monday because it dipped into the city's carryover fund by $483,000 and eliminated the city engineer's position, and because council has rejected his recommendation to have an independent audit done to analyze city spending.

Council also approved a three-year contract with the city's five full-time firefighters. It included a two-year wage freeze and a reopener on wages in the third year, and required firefighters to pick up the 10 percent of their monthly health insurance premiums and pay the local share of their retirement contribution.
