Members of the city of Toledo's AFSCME Local 7 union overwhelmingly approved an agreement with the Bell administration Monday that will replaced the much deeper concessions that Toledo City Council agreed last month to force upon the union.

The union voted 539-85 to accept a tentative agreement reached last week that will requires employees to pay 3 percent of their pension premium through Dec. 31.

Under the agreement, the city would resume paying the full 10 percent of the employees' share of the pension premiums on Jan. 1, 2011.

The agreement also requires the union to take six layoffs, and spread retirement payouts for employees retiring this year over a three-year period.

The forced concessions that council had approved for Local 7 and other city unions required employees to permanently pay all of the pension premiums, and pay more for medical insurance.
