Sylvania Avenue closings to begin Wednesday

4/21/2010

Long-term construction will affect Sylvania Avenue in West Toledo and Sylvania Township starting Wednesday morning, county and city officials announced.

In Sylvania Township, Sylvania Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic west of Holland-Sylvania Road for 100 days, the Lucas County Engineer's office announced.

The closing is associated with a reconstruction and widening project on Sylvania through the Holland-Sylvania intersection, and additional closings are planned after the current construction phase is completed in late July, said Kyle Warner, an associate traffic engineer with the county.

Sylvania will be closed to westbound traffic between Holland-Sylvania and Robinhood Lane. Posted detours will direct motorists either north to Brint Road or south to Central Avenue. Those wishing to reach Sylvania in the McCord Road area should take the northerly detour, because McCord is under construction south of Sylvania.

Eastbound traffic will be maintained through the work area but may be delayed by maneuvering construction equipment.

In West Toledo, construction of a manhole chamber will restrict traffic to one lane each way between Willys Parkway and Revere Drive for 41 days. The right lane will remain open in both directions while work is done in the left lanes at Overland Parkway.

The city transportation division cautioned motorists to expect delays in the area, and consider alternate routes. Motorists must remember Berdan Avenue, the closest possible alternative, is closed for sewer construction east of Jackman Road.
