Services set for Monroe soldier killed in Afghanistan

MONROE - Services for a Monroe soldier killed in Afghanistan on April 17 will be Friday in Stewart Christian Ministry Center, according to Merkle Funeral Service.

Visitation for Sgt. Michael Ingram, Jr., will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in Merkle Funeral Home, 2442 North Monroe St.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday in the church, 1199 Stewart Rd.

Sergeant Ingram, 23, died from injuries suffered from an improvised explosive device while he was on patrol with his unit in the province of Kandahar in Afghanistan.

The 2005 Monroe High School graduate was assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team. He joined the Army in February, 2006, and was based in Colorado.

His father, Michael Ingram, lives in Newport, Mich., and his mother and stepfather, Ron and Tricia Kitts, live in Grand Junction, Colo.
