Weekend in Review: On the Town, motorcyclist injured, man found dead

Several recent events helped those less fortunate. Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation Toledo celebrated its 15th anniversary last week at Fat Fish Blue in Levis Commons. Nearly 1,000 people attended, in spite of the rain, and they were treated to a fabulous array of foods from local restaurants and caterers, along with wines from local distributors.

A 35-year-old Stickney Avenue man was in serious condition Saturday night after his motorcycle crashed and caught fire on the Anthony Wayne Trail near downtown early Saturday morning. Jonathan O. Perry was in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Three adults and a child are aided after two vehicles collided on Broadway at Foraker Avenue in South Toledo. One driver was extricated from a vehicle struck on the driver's side just before 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Three years ago, Rod Stanton was meticulous about checking the history of a potential new investment rental property in West Toledo. The modest home on Brame Place, a small dead-end street, all checked out. That is, until just two months ago when a mysterious $250 was subtracted from his mortgage escrow account to cover a lien from an unpaid water bill racked up by the house's previous owner.

The body of Nathan V. Luna, 29, was found in a creek in West Toledo, just south of Ottawa Hills, by a neighbor Saturday, authorities said. Authorities said Mr. Luna had an altercation with his girlfriend in his home about 7:30 a.m.

A funeral procession of nearly 400 people passed on foot through Monroe's northwest corner Friday to lay to rest a young Army sergeant killed last month in Afghanistan. A horse-drawn hearse carrying the flag-draped coffin of Sgt. Michael K. Ingram, Jr., 23, of Newport, Mich., led the procession for its 1.3-mile journey from Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center on Stewart Road to St. Joseph Cemetery on Monroe Street.

Terri Camp Kruse admits she's an alcoholic, admits she'd been arrested three times for drunken driving before the night of April 3, 1993, when she went left of center on a curve on State Rt. 51 and killed a 14-year-old boy on his way home from a dance. "I was unemployed. I was irresponsible. I was a user, manipulator, liar, a cheat - not a very nice person, and drinking was a mode of escape," Kruse, now 45, told Ottawa County Common Pleas Judge Bruce Winters and a packed courtroom yesterday.
