Fearing Boulevard expected to reopen Thursday

5/5/2010

Reconstruction work that closed the intersection of Fearing Boulevard and Hill Avenue for about two weeks ended Tuesday, but Fearing stayed shut north of Hill for sewer work expected to end tomorrow, the city transportation division announced.

Gary Stookey, a senior city engineer, said repairs to a 24-inch brick sewer beneath Fearing were added by the city to take advantage of the closing for the intersection project, but unexpectedly ran longer.

The reopening of Fearing between Airport Highway and Hill at least provides motorists with the use of underpasses at the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks that had been blocked by the work.

The posted detour for Fearing between Hill and Brown avenues is Nebraska, Westwood, and Hill avenues, but Mr. Stookey said vehicles weighing less than three tons could use Parkside Boulevard as a shorter alternate route around the sewer work until Fearing reopens.
