North Toledoan shot in chest by neighbor, police say

A man was critically injured when he was shot multiple times in the chest by a neighbor Tuesday inside the neighbor's North Toledo home, police said.

Sean L. Machaterre, 33, of 24 West Hudson St. was in critical condition last night in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, police said.

The neighbor accused of shooting him, Arthur P. Swearengen, 51, of 23 West Hudson was held in the Lucas County jail without bond on a charge of felonious assault.

Gunshots were reported at 23 West Hudson about 3:25 p.m. Police said Mr. Machaterre was shot inside the home there, but the arriving officers found him in his own home.

The incident remains under investigation.
