2 indicted in West Toledo jewelry store holdup

5/7/2010

Two men were indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Wednesday for a jewelry store heist in West Toledo last month.

Venice Small, 21, of 2831 Scottwood Ave. and Davon Bryant, 20, of 709 Lodge Ave. were charged with one count each of aggravated robbery and kidnapping, each with a gun specification.

Bryant was also charged with a second count of aggravated robbery with a gun specification.

At 4:50 p.m. April 27, officers responded to an alarm at Antypas Brothers Jewelry, 2350 Laskey Rd., and found a robbery in progress, police said. The suspects apparently saw police arrive and fled the store with guns, cash, and jewelry. Officers apprehended them on foot, recovering everything that was stolen.

Authorities said the suspects entered the store with guns, demanded cash and jewelry from the two employees inside, and handcuffed one of the employees while they loaded up items.

If convicted, Mr. Small faces up to 23 years in prison; Bryant faces up to 33 years.
