FREMONT - The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center has a means to keep its grounds in shape, courtesy of three service clubs.
The Fremont Kiwanis, Rotary, and Exchange clubs collaborated to buy a mower for the center to replace the mower destroyed March 6 in a garage fire at the center. A local lawn mower retailer helped by applying a credit offered nontaxable entities, bringing the cost of the $9,500 mower under $7,000.
The donated mower was delivered last month.
After the fire, set accidentally by an 8-year-old boy, the Hayes Center asked businesses and patrons to help by donating or loaning mowers and snow removal equipment.
