HUDSON, Mich. — Lenawee County sheriff's deputies and forensic specialists yesterday were investigating the discovery of what appeared to be human skeletal remains unearthed by a road crew on U.S. 127 at Nelson Road, south of Hudson.

Sheriff Jack Welsh said road construction workers were digging on the east side of U.S. 127 about 1:30 p.m. when they discovered a portion of a skull and other bones. The sheriff's office called Michigan State Police forensics experts in Lansing.

Sheriff Welsh said he knew of no outstanding missing persons or other cases in the county that the discovery might solve.
