Wood County alters policy on guns in courthouse

BOWLING GREEN — People with concealed-carry permits no longer may take firearms into the Wood County Courthouse complex after a gun accidentally went off in the atrium.

County Administrator Andrew Kalmar said Toledo lawyer Paul Redrup had checked his firearm with court security Monday, but after he retrieved the gun from a gun locker before leaving the courthouse about 3:30 p.m., he put it in his pants pocket and it discharged.

The bullet grazed his right foot and left a divot in the terrazzo floor, Mr. Kalmar said. Court security issued a new policy this week that only uniformed police officers may take firearms into the courthouse.
