Coroner: Kaczala died of blunt-force trauma

Former Lucas County Auditor Larry Kaczala, who died Tuesday after jumping from a parking garage at Toledo Hospital, died from multiple blunt-force trauma, an autopsy performed yesterday showed.

Deputy Coroner Dr. Maneesha Pandey said the injuries were primarily to Mr. Kaczala's head and chest.

Mr. Kaczala, 53, of Ottawa Hills was pronounced dead at the hospital after police said he jumped from the fifth level of the parking garage that connects the Conrad Jobst and Harris McIntosh towers about 11:35 a.m. Chief Mike Navarre said there were several people in the area “who heard or saw something out of the corner of their eye. They didn't see him leap, but something caught their attention and then they saw him lying there.”

Dr. Pandey said the coroner's office will not make a further ruling until the investigation is complete and it receives the results of toxicology tests.
