ADRIAN — A Toledo man on duty for an Ottawa Lake, Mich., refuse collection firm died Thursday morning at a hospital more than an hour after he was struck by a car while crossing a road in Lenawee County's Raisin Township.

Scott Cousino, 30, was struck by Laura Hubbard, 40, of Britton, Mich., who was westbound on Sutton Road between Rogers and Raisin Center highways, Raisin Township police Chief Scott Lambka said.

He was flown to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, and was pronounced dead at 11:54 a.m., Chief Lambka said.

Mr. Cousino, a driver for Countryside Disposal, parked his garbage truck in the eastbound lane of Sutton about 10:30 a.m. and started across the road to pick up trash. Ms. Hubbard crested a hill and struck him as he was in her lane, Chief Lambka said.

The crash, which occurred northeast of Adrian, remains under investigation. Adrian is 35 miles northwest of Toledo.
