PORT CLINTON — A Whitehouse, Ohio, man has died after suffering serious injury in a motorcycle crash early Saturday in Ottawa County's Portage Township, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Brett Motter, 29, who suffered serious leg and head trauma in the accident east of Port Clinton, was pronounced dead at 10:16 a.m. Saturday at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, troopers at the patrol's Sandusky post said.

The accident occurred about 12:35 a.m. Saturday on the State Rt. 2 eastbound entrance ramp from State Rt. 163.

Mr. Motter was eastbound at a high rate of speed when he failed to round a left-hand curve, causing the motorcycle to overturn onto its left side. The vehicle slid off the right side of the ramp and struck two guardrail posts, throwing the driver on the ground, troopers said.

Port Clinton is about 40 miles east of Toledo.
