A Toledoan who shot at his estranged wife both after showing up at their home and while following her on Angola Road entered a plea Monday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Victor Rodriguez, 39, also known as Victor Saenz, pleaded no contest to two counts of felonious assault, one with a three-year gun specification, and one count of discharging a firearm into a habitation with a one-year gun specification. As part of the agreement, the assistant county prosecutor will recommend a cap of nine years in prison.

An additional 12 counts — including five counts of attempt to commit murder — and attached gun specifications will be dismissed.

Judge Gary Cook set a June 30 sentencing date. The judge could impose a sentence of up to 28 years.

Rodriguez, of 3217 Glanzman Rd., arrived at his estranged wife's Angola Road house on June 17 and shot several times into the home with a shotgun. The house was empty at the time because he had previously texted his daughters saying that "they all were going to pay and die tonight," authorities said.

That same night, as he was leaving the mobile home park, he encountered his estranged wife as she returned, authorities said. He then pursued her in her vehicle. He shot at her repeatedly during the chase, which began in South Toledo and ended in Springfield Township when he rammed her car.

The felonious assault with a gun specification conviction is a result of his shooting at his estranged wife while driving. The remaining felonious assault conviction is a result of Rodriguez "T-boning" her vehicle.
