OTTAWA, Ohio — The Putnam County District Public Library is the latest northwest Ohio library to ask voters to help support its operations.

In light of state budget cuts, library trustees agreed this week to place a five-year, 0.87-mill levy on the November ballot. If approved, the measure would generate $561,000 a year to help the library restore hours, programs, and materials purchases at its main library in Ottawa and seven branches across Putnam County.

Library Director Kelly Ward said levy proceeds would not be used to help build a new library in Ottawa. It was damaged in the 2007 flood and a $2.8 million facility is under construction on Putnam Parkway near the new Ottawa Elementary.
