FOSTORIA - In an attempt to close a nearly $315,000 shortfall in the city's general fund, the city has served six police officers and four firefighters with layoff notices.
Dennis Fligor, Fostoria's safety-service director, said yesterday one of the six officers will be recalled and paid with a federal grant designated for laid-off officers. The police cuts are expected to save about $125,000 and at least $225,000 in the fire department, Mr. Fligor said.
They will cut the police force from 22 to 17 and the fire department from 17 to 13.
