Sandusky driver killed in rollover crash

SANDUSKY — A 24-year-old Sandusky man was killed Saturday when the truck he was driving careened off State Rt. 4 in Erie County's Groton Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Timothy M. Hiemstra, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers at the patrol's Sandusky post said.

Trevor A. Dehn, 24, also of Sandusky, a passenger, was treated at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.

The crash occurred south of the Ohio Turnpike at about 3:45 a.m. Mr. Hiemstra was northbound on Route 4 when his truck went off the road, hit a sign and guardrail, and then overturned, striking a sign post and rolling down the embankment.

The occupants of the truck were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the vehicle, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
