GOP files Kaczala as candidate for Lucas County Auditor

Mrs. Kaczala, 49, of Ottawa Hills, and Mr. Stainbrook filed at the office of the Lucas County Board of Elections to put her name on the Nov. 2 ballot.

She was endorsed Sunday by the Lucas County Republican Party's executive committee to replace Norm Witzler, who withdrew last week as the GOP's nominee to run against Democratic Auditor Anita Lopez.

Mrs. Kaczala was a 21-year employee of the Lucas County auditor's office, starting before her husband, Larry, became auditor in 1993. Mr. Kaczala lost his re-election effort in 2006. He died in a suicide jump from a Toledo Hospital parking garage June 8.

Also Monday, the Libertarian Party of Ohio filed the name of Sylvania resident Joe Jaffe to run for the 9th Congressional District seat now held by Democrat Marcy Kaptur of Toledo.

Mr. Jaffe replaces Jeremy Swartz of Oregon who won the Libertarian nomination in May but later withdrew from the race. Miss Kaptur is seeking re-election and is also facing opposition from Republican Richard Iott of Monclova Township.
