Continental Plastics to move work to Indiana

NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio - Continental Structural Plastics, which announced on Tuesday that it will close its plant here and idle 214 workers, said Wednesday it plans to reopen a closed factory in northeastern Indiana and hire up to 350 employees by 2012.

Continental, based in Troy, Mich., said it plans to spend about $9 million on upgrades to the former Meridian Automotive Systems factory in Huntington, Ind. Continental, an auto-parts manufacturer, had complained about costs of complying with environmental regulations at its North Baltimore plant.

Thomas Hilborn, a Continental executive, said Indiana provided the "right business environment." Gov. Mitch Daniels joined company and local leaders Wednesday in the announcement at the factory.
