People whose lives have been touched by suicide, as well as and others interested in raising awareness about suicide prevention, are to gather Sept. 11 for metro Toledo’s fourth annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk.

The event, to be held at Sylvania’s Olander Park, begins at 10 a.m., after registration at 9. Walkers are encouraged to register early at out of the dark ness.org.

Sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, community walks are to be held throughout the country to raise money for research and education to prevent suicide, increase awareness about depression and suicide, and assist survivors of suicide loss.

Local organizer Jodi Hepler said it is not necessary to actually do the walk.

“Just sit by the lake on the deck and reflect in memory,” she suggested.
